On Metric Temporal Logic and Faulty Turing Machines

چکیده
Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) is a real-time extension of Linear Temporal Logic that was proposed fifteen years ago and has since been extensively studied. Since the early 1990s, it has been widely believed that some very small fragments of MTL are undecidable (i.e., have undecidable satisfiability and model-checking problems). We recently showed that, on the contrary, some substantial and important fragments of MTL are decidable [19, 20]. However, until now the question of the decidability of full MTL over infinite timed words remained open. In this paper, we settle the question negatively. The proof of undecidability relies on a surprisingly strong connection between MTL and a particular class of faulty Turing machines, namely ‘insertion channel machines with emptiness-testing’.

On Termination for Faulty Channel Machines
A channel machine consists of a finite controller together with several fifo channels; the controller can read messages from the head of a channel and write messages to the tail of a channel. In this paper, we focus on channel machines with insertion errors, i.e., machines in whose channels messages can spontaneously appear. Such devices have been previously introduced in the study of Metric Te...
متن کاملSome improvements in fuzzy turing machines
In this paper, we improve some previous definitions of fuzzy-type Turing machines to obtain degrees of accepting and rejecting in a computational manner. We apply a BFS-based search method and some level’s upper bounds to propose a computational process in calculating degrees of accepting and rejecting. Next, we introduce the class of Extended Fuzzy Turing Machines equipped with indeterminacy s...
متن کاملModel-checking ATL under Imperfect Information and Perfect Recall Semantics is Undecidable
We propose a formal proof of the undecidability of the model checking problem for alternatingtime temporal logic under imperfect information and perfect recall semantics. This problem was announced to be undecidable according to a personal communication on multi-player games with imperfect information, but no formal proof was ever published. Our proof is based on a direct reduction from the non...
متن کاملSatisfiability for MTL and TPTL over Non-monotonic Data Words
In the context of real-time systems, Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) and Timed Propositional Temporal Logic (TPTL) are prominent and widely used extensions of Linear Temporal Logic. In this paper, we examine the possibility of using MTL and TPTL to specify properties about classes of non-monotonic data languages over the natural numbers. Words in this class may model the behaviour of, e.g., one-cou...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of Model Checking for Syntactically Maximal Fragments of the Interval Temporal Logic HS with Regular Expressions
In this paper, we investigate the model checking (MC) problem for Halpern and Shoham’s interval temporal logic HS. In the last years, interval temporal logic MC has received an increasing attention as a viable alternative to the traditional (point-based) temporal logic MC, which can be recovered as a special case. Most results have been obtained under the homogeneity assumption, that constrains...
